Celebrations of Samoan Language Week

It was a great opportunity for  children and teachers in our centre to engage in the ‘Samoan Language Week’.  Children learnt about the culture of Samoa through the implementation of using and speaking the language, through songs, stories, arts and cooking. Thank you to April one of our teachers and Sieu , one of our student teachers for sharing her knowledge and aspiration of her Samoan culture, beliefs and values.

              Matariki Month

This month the children have been emerged in the learning of the ‘Maori culture’. For 4 weeks the children have experienced the learning of the Maori language through songs, stories, arts and creativity.Thank you to Sophia, Anaru’s Nana for coming down and showing the children how to weave.

‘Matariki’ is the Maori celebration for the Maori new year. It exists about the story of the                        seven stars being the seven sisters. The Maori people used to stock up their barns with food              such as potaotes, kumara through the season of ‘Winter’ in preparation of crops not growing              due to the change of the weather.

Special Celebrations for the Under 2 years area - Graduation

We had the pleasure of celebrating a new milestone for 2 of our children. Tyron and Marie turned 2 years old this month and have started a new journey to the over 2 years area for further learning and development. Thank you to the parents and whanau for making this day a special occasion with the sharing of words, acknowledgement and aroha (love). We wish Tyron and Marie all the best with their transition to the over 2 years area. You both look so stunning in your graduation gown.

           Over 2 Years Area

The Children have been continuing to engage more in the ‘Construction Area’ for learning. Children have shown more interest as they extend their learning by adding on extra objects to what they have built. This shows the children’s thinking, understanding and creativity.

             Under 2 Years Area:

Children have been learning about the feel of textures with the playdough, water, sandplay,                arts, crafts and role play. The observation of children’s interest is changing from ‘sensory’ to              construction.

            Fire Drill

Last week we had a fire drill in our centre with Terry’s guidancewho is from New Zealand Fire              Service . The fire alarm was set to go, the sound was loud for everyone to hear. Terry                            explained to the children why we have to go outside when the alarm goes. Teaching our                      children about fire safety is very important. Remember to ring 111 and ask for Fire.
